Unnumbered SR Motor Rail

The Southern Railway bought this 1932 built 2ft. gauge Motor Rail, works number 5355, from T. W. Ward, Leeds in 1935. This was a 20/35hp type straight channel frame locomotive with a Dorman 4 cylinder 4MRX petrol engine. It was converted to standard gauge and allocated to Southampton Dock Engineer's Department. It was still there in 1948, but its withdrawal date is unknown. It was sold in 1977 to a private buyer and was subsequently acquired by another private buyer in 2004. It was under restoration to its original 2ft. gauge at Twyford Waterworks Railway near Winchester.
