82-87, Ruston & Hornsby 88DS 0-4-0DM

Six Ruston & Hornsby 88DS locomotives were acquired by the North Eastern Region Civil Engineers Department between 1958 and 1961. Painted in a lined green livery, they were all withdrawn in 1970 and scrapped.

Now, having already built the Reading Signal Works No.20 from a Judith Edge kit, I was going to build this version from the same kit. However, Hornby announced in January 2021 that they were producing various versions of the 88DS, including Departmental No.84. As such, I am going to hold off and see what Hornby's version looks like.

Impetus also made a kit of an 88DS, but unfortunately this has been unavailable since Kalgarin took over.

In January 2021, Hornby announced that they were producing various RTR versions of the 88DS for delivery July 2021, including No.84 in BR Green livery. These should prove very popular.
