North British Class 41 A1A-A1A Diesel Hydraulic

My model of the Class 41 'Warship' is a Silver Fox one piece resin body running on a modified Lima Class 47 chassis. That was all that was available when I built it a number of years ago. However, I modified the body slightly by fitting etched see through grilles that were available through A1 Models. Sadly this range is no longer available. Finished in BR Green with grey roof and skirt stripe, the model also features sprung buffers and full cab detail. The etched roof grilles are worth a note. There are of course only two fan grilles, not three as the British Main Line Diesel Locomotives by Marsden & Fenn show. The centre grille is in fact a circular vent plate over the steam heating boiler!

I finished my model off in original form a D601 'Ark Royal', the only one I saw even if it was lurking about at Woodhams scrapyard. Unfortunately the sole survivor was cut up in 1980.

This was one of my 'pre-DCC' models and I am now looking at modifying it and include working lights.

Announced in 2010, Kernow Model Centre made it known that they were going to produce a RTR version covering all types. It has been a long time coming, but was finally released in April 2019. It does look very good, but at the price they are charging, I think I'll stick with my version!

Other models have been available, such as the MTK white metal kit, and was available through Phoenix-Precision for a while.
