North Eastern EE1 2-Co-2 Electric

The sole EE1 was built for the North Eastern Railway's proposed York-Newcastle electrification scheme at 1,500V dc overhead. The scheme never materialised and the locomotive not used apart from some trials on the Newport-Shildon line. It survived into BR ownership being withdrawn in 1950.

This is a Judith Edge kit and progress has been a bit slow so far. It is powered by two vertical mounted Mashima 1024 flat can motors through 50:1 gearing on the outer driving wheels only. I was fortunate to pick up some specially made for this kit Sharman wheels at the time and sadly, these are no longer available.

A water leak in my shed has caused some rust damage on the steel parts which I've dealt with and I hope to complete in due course.
